The web is always changing and bringing new, dynamic functionality to immerse us into the ever-expanding world of online interaction. I’ve been advocating that Flash will no longer be used within the next two years and HTML5 will take over. Without the need of a plugin and with using a modern browser, users can view video, listen to audio and create animations.
Today, Adobe released a preview of its new software Edge. Without a doubt, this will keep Adobe in the game of interactive design and development.
AdobeĀ® Edge is a new web motion and interaction design tool that allows designers to bring animated content to websites, using web standards like HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS3.

I tried Edge and I have to say I really like the way it works. It’s a simple layout and very quick to learn. I was able to make an animation of a box dropping from the top of the screen and landing at the bottom with its shadow fading in as it fell. When you save your project, all the necessary scripts and styles are saved with it.
The only thing I see being an issue is when a developer wants to add the animation into a block of an already existing site. Once the files are saved, the developer will have to copy & paste the code into the existing site. I like to have clean code and this includes all of my naming conventions and white spacing. Because of this, I’m sure there will be some renaming of styles and realigning of white spacing.
For preview software, it’s great and I look forward to what Adobe has to offer with Edge down the road.
